Monday November 28th, Bonsai Artist David Easterbrook at the Center for Urban Horticulture at 7:00PM, plus PSBA Annual Business Meeting
The Puget Sound Bonsai association is pleased to announce North American bonsai pioneer, the legendary David Easterbrook. Hailing from Montreal, Canada he is one of two international guests that will be gracing our humble little club with the gift of their presence, their time, and most of all their vast and cosmopolitan knowledge around the art of bonsai. They will be closing out a fantastically dynamic year in bonsai here in the Puget Sound Region. These are truly special events at a magical time of year.
David began his bonsai journey in 1970, at the age of 20 and just a few years later started the Bonsai Society of Montreal, where he also later became the chief curator of the Montreal Botanical Garden's Bonsai and Penjing collection. During the 29 1/2 years that he served in this role, he was responsible for developing many of the techniques and a large part of the knowledge that we still use in practicing bonsai here in the U.S. today. He was responsible for educating himself as well as his colleagues at the botanical garden about proper bonsai care and maintenance as there was very little information available in North America at this time, and likewise, this was prior to the Internet. So to some extent we all owe him a debt of gratitude for the pioneering work that he selflessly did over that long period of dedicated service to the tiny trees.
David Easterbrook is a fascinating individual with that French-Canadian charisma and savoir-faire that just makes you want to listen to him talk about bonsai all day long. This opportunity to experience him in action and in his expertise in-person is not to be missed. And be sure to take advantage of this rare opportunity to take part in a on-on-one workshop with a North American Bonsai legend.
