Our annual bonsai auction is taking place once again on the first Saturday in June, the 4th, at the Pacific Bonsai Museum. Gates open at 10AM with the auction starting at 11:30. There will be 50 or so refined bonsai at live auction and over 100 items available in silent auction.
Our club is putting on our biggest public show of the year at the Pacific Bonsai Museum in Federal Way. We need you best bonsai for show and volunteers for set up, take down, and docents.
This is a study group style meeting where club members can bring in their own bonsai to show off, work on in the company of fellow members, and ask the advice of some of the more advance members. Bring your tools and work on your bonsai.

Dave will host workshops on Sunday March 27th from noon to 3:45 PM and Monday March 28th from noon to 3:45 PM. These workshops will be held at the Haller Lake Community Club in North Seattle. PSBA’s annual business meeting will precede the general meeting with guest artist Bobby Curttright. Bobby will perform a virtual demonstration of bonsai techniques on a Hemlock.

Long-Term Strategies for Growing Quality Bonsai from Scratch: This presentation is an overview of the bonsai development process aimed at helping identify which techniques apply at different stages of development. Using trees from my collection, I'll identify next steps based on current development goals for different species at different stages of development. Questions are encouraged throughout the program.

“Penjing” – literally ”landscape in a pot” – is the Chinese equivalent of “Bonsai” but more specifically descriptive. Dave De Groot has travelled to China three times to attend penjing conventions, demonstrate, and learn. Seeing penjing “in the flesh” opened a new world of appreciation for the imagination, variety, and technical skill Chinese artists demonstrate in their work. China is a place where contemporary “International” style penjing live comfortably with trees in ancient traditional styles.
